5 Resolutions I’m Making This Passover

Passover symbolizes setting ourselves free from Slavery. Here’s What that means in the 21st century.

According to Jewish tradition, the month of Passover used to symbolize the beginning of the year. Spring cleaning, in Judaism, stems from getting the house ready for the holiday. That means being clean from “Hametz,” which is essentially bread or anything made with flour or wheat.

Some people, like me, make “New Year” resolutions from Passover to Passover.

It has always been my favorite holiday of the year. For one, I always take a vacation from my day job during that time. It’s a tradition not to work during the holiday dates as there’s this belief rooted in Halacha (Jewish law) that working during the holiday will not bear fruit.

Also, there’s lots of amazing food, but I’m a simple guy. This holiday is my excuse to eat Matzah with Chocolate.

This is also the first week-long vacation I took in over a year. I feel like I earned it 😉

So, to celebrate the holiday tomorrow, here are some resolutions I’m making that might interest you, too.

Let’s dive in!

Leaning Into Batching Content

One of the mistakes I made this year was becoming lazy. Let me explain. At the beginning of the year, I leaned into 30-day challenges. Doing those challenges made me realize that keeping my equipment up was better because it made me less resistant to making content.

For 30-day challenges that’s a good idea because you’re filming every day. but for real life? Not so much. Having my equipment up all the time makes me live in a disorganized environment. Which is making me less productive overall.

My light is setup in a way that blocks my bookshelf and my TV. And I’m not making videos every day now.

Besides, by encouraging myself to make content every day, I’m making it less attractive to go through the scripting process. If I don’t have my equipment set up, I could still do video-related tasks that elevate my content overall. Encouraging myself to batch-create my content will help me focus my efforts on filming day.

Focusing on one filming day a week will also free up my time to work on the blog, this newsletter, and more. I will also feel less guilty because I know that I shouldn’t be filming when it’s not my filming day.

Committing to Work on My Zettlekasten

If you don’t know, Zettlekasten is a method of taking notes and parsing your knowledge. My main reason for starting one is to offload all knowledge from my mind.

I remember reading somewhere that our brains were meant to process information but not to keep it. We forget so much every day. So, by starting a Zettlekasten, I’m offloading a lot of that information into a “second brain,” which I can access from anywhere I please, thanks to Obsidian.

I’m a 36-year-old man who has extensive knowledge of Podcasting, Blogging, Content Creation, and Software Engineering. However, I don’t have documentation of this knowledge. By writing down what I know, I could also advance towards creating informational products.

I could definitely write a blog about programming, but I need to document my knowledge first.

I already have a programming blog, which I’m procrastinating publishing posts on, but the Zettlekasten notes will make it a no-brainer to publish as every “fleeting note” will need to be processed into a larger “permanent note” where I’m parsing the information and writing it in a way I will understand if I come back to the note at a later date.

Writing my Zettlekasten is also a way to bridge topics like Software Engineering and D&D and see what exciting things could result from combining two distant topics.

Building An Instagram Audience

This idea has been simmering in my mind for a while. I’ve been on Instagram since it was introduced in Israel, but never used it for business. It was mostly just for viewing what other people were posting.

Recently, I realized Instagram could be a good way to combine my love for photos and videos with making side hustle money that can help me escape the rat race.

I started this journey with a 30-day challenge, but now I also realize that writing skits is harder than I initially assumed. That’s why I need some more time to work on each one.

Using ManyChat, I can make each post an asset to bring more people into a free email course I built.

By restricting my filming time during the week, I essentially give myself permission to script and outline each of the ideas I’ve already written so that I can batch-record them when it’s time to sit in front of the camera.

Getting My Nerdy Blog to 100 Posts

Over the years, I have made many mistakes with my Nerdy blog, the first of which was not being consistent with it. This time, whenever I have the urge to “start over,” I remind myself that I did not earn the right to review the blog until I had 100 posts published on it. For now, I’m at 55.

So, 45 more, and then we’ll see how it performs.

I don’t even have ads or paywalled content on it yet. I just want to see what more content will do for it.

Getting 25% of My Income From Courses

By next Passover, I’m hoping that 25% of my income will come from courses. Over the years, I have gained many skills, such as blogging, software engineering, podcasting, etc., which I will happily teach.

So, I’m going to lean into it and see how creating funnels for selling those courses could work for me.

This also ties strictly into my Instagram strategy. I’d love to see how I can serve the people who come across my Instagram videos and ask me questions or give me feedback.

What Next?

That’s all I have for you today. I’m on vacation from my day job for the next week or so. Aside from celebrating the holiday with my family, I do intend to use the rest of the time to work on the things discussed above while also trying to chill with all that newfound extra time when I’m not working.

I’ll update you next week on how it went 🙂

Sending love your way!
Oren

P.S.

I’m beta-testing a podcast interviewing course. So, if you are interested in learning how to interview your podcast guests better, reply with “course,” and I will send you a link to sign up for free (I only ask for feedback after you finish it!)
